Im trying to demote a server thats not part of a domain anymore. It's lost the tree and cant see anything anymore because it does not exist. Ive tried ntdsutil to seize roles but it just errors out because it cant find the domain master. Is there a way to force demote this server without having it look on the network for the servers that dont exist anymore? Thanks

Take it with ease and with care = all i can say.

Read the faq's!

Nope. When the demotion of a server takes place all the records of the server are removed from the ad tree, dc's etc. If it can't find the tree you can't demote it. All you can do is add it to the domain again and demote it. Good luck
