We have a little network with a DCOM client on Win98 and
the DCOM server on our Win NT4 server.

I cannot connect the server object if the users logged on the two computer are different (it works good with the two computers logged as administrator...).

I can connect the server object if the NT4 server is defined as a Domain server but it doesnt work if the server is defined as a workgroup server.

does anybody have an explanation ??

Can you connect DCOM with win98-winNT and a workgroup ?

Thanks. [sig][/sig]

Hi,

We had a similar problem with Win 2000, when logged into the workgroup. But it worked when logged in as a valid user in the domain. Also make sure to add the user (whoever is logged in to the server) in Default Security -> Default Access Permissions tab of dcomcnfg.

auclair,
as a point of interest did you manage to resolve the problem as we, too, are having not too disimilar problems.

we still get the error429 - object cannot be created on the win98_cli but if the client app is run (physically) on the server all objects can be created and all appears to be well???

any help along this would be appreciated!
cheers Mark Saunders :)
