In the event viewer we keep getting an error under system which says

Unable to start a DCOM Server: {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541}. The error:
"The system cannot find the path specified. "
Happened while starting this command:
"C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" -Embedding

Now we uninstalled microsoft messenger a while ago, but gave no help, does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

sounds like you have components installed that didn't get uninstalled properly. Component Services may be trying to load a DLL that no longer exsists since the directory is not there.

I was getting this very same error in XP Home whenever I started Outlook Express. I had previously disable Windows Messenger from automatically starting up with OE. I deleted the indicated key: {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541}. This has stopped the error from reappearing, and I can't see any negative impact on the system. OE seems to run fine, and I can still start Messenger manually. Hope this works for you too.
