Has anyone actually taken the dbo exam, or for that matter, know someone who has taken the exam? I've bought the book (Couchman) and have been studying but have this uneasy feeling that this is a certification that may not see much market demand. Anyone else get this feeling?

Paranoidly yours (I don't think that's a real word....),

I suspect you're right. You will probably see far more job postings for DBAs than DBOs. I believe this certification will help you if you're looking for an entry position working with an Oracle database, because it indicates you already know something about the subject. But beyond that, I'm not sure how valuable it is. Certainly it's better to have it than to not have anything!

I've been studying up for the first of the DBA exams, and I did a little research on the DBO to see if it would be worth getting before starting on the 5 DBA exams.

The feeling I get from those who've commented on it is that you are mostly correct, there isn't much of a market for it, other than proving that you have entry-level Oracle skills. For me, personally, I think the first DBA exam will carry as much weight.

I think it's one of those factors that will give you a little edge over a similar job candidate without one, but employers probably won't list it in their requirements.

it is true that this certification has no market except for those people who are plain novices.
i have given this paper and i found it of no partcular importance in the market

I personally think the DBO certification has value for sysadmins and the like, who might need to backup a dba and know basics, even though they aren't really "entry level". I know when hiring sysadmins to support our systems, the DBO cert would be a plus. That way, I know they understand Oracle db concepts, basic backup & recovery, basic monitoring, etc.

I took the DBO exam & passed first try using practice tests from Self Test Software (STS) -
