i know that DBMS is the Powerbuilder vendor identifier - but will someone explain to me more about DBMS? what is it exactly? is it a driver of some sort?

Based on what DBMS= tells it what dll (driver) to use.

Example DBMS=084 would be Oracle for PB 8.0

DBMS=SYC This was Sybase.

Hope this was helpfull.
