"it doesn't recognize LONG NAMES"

Which doesn't recognize long file names? Windows XP or Visual dBase 5.5?

If you're talking about Windows, are you using COMMAND.COM or CMD.EXE to do something? Always use CMD.EXE which works with long file names.

Use CMD.EXE not COMMAND.COM

Hi folks,

I have found the same difficulty in transferring working dBase 5.7 programs from Win 98 to Win XP. For some reason if a long named file is called from a parent .wfm (.wfo) it gives an error.

The fix is to rename all called files to 8.3 format and it now can find them. This is not a dBase 5.7 issue, but a Win XP problem. Internal procedures called from a program or .wfm do not have this issue, only those which are called through Windows directory system.

What a pain! Another triumph for Microsoft!
