DB2 Readdressing

Hello,

I have a windows 2003 server containing an DB2 database that holds an accounting application called ACCPAC. I need to move this server and readdress it. Is there anything I have to do to the database in order to retain functionality with the new ip address. I do not have to rename the server, only move and readdress.

I have no experience with DB2 at all.

Can someone please offer some advice or point me in the correct direction to complete this move.

Thanks,

Loyalist

What do you mean with move?
Are you going to use a new server (hardware) and create databases and the application on it?

I am physically moving the server to a different office location which will require giving the server a different ip address than what it currently has. Everything on the server will stay in tact, except for the ip address.

Don't know how server 2003 handles this, but with NT and server 2000 you can use the server name in adressing the machine (and the ip address will be fetched through the name). Is the server part of a larger network (possibly having another server as domain server?)

I think this is more an issue for one of the network forums than anything specific for DB2 ......

I have no problems with readdressing the server itself, it is the DB2 that I am worried about. From past experience I have moved servers containing SQL databases and the ip address and host name of the server was directly tied to the database, so if they were not changed within the database itself, the database would no longer function with the new address/host name. Is there parameters within the DB2 that I have to make changes to point to the new ip address? Is the DB2 tied to the network address of the server, is it tied to the hostname of the server? As previously mentioned, I am not concerned about the hostname because I am not renaming the server only readdressing it.

Hmmm,
That is a tricky one..
Couple of months ago I took an offline backup from one of my databases, installed a newer DB2 version on a totally different machine, with a totally different server-name and IP-address.
You guessed it, this was a test :)

Connecting to this new machine/database work flawlessly.
It may not be the same as what you are going to do, but in light of my experiences I find it unlikely that you will have the same problems with SQL server!!!

Thanks, at this point I think I am going to proceed as most people seem to think that I will not experience the same issue with the DB2 as I did with SQL, however it would be nice to have confirmation one way or the other.

Think what I will do is readdress it in the same subnet first, just to make sure it still works and if it does I will then move it.

The only class notes I have about this issue says - If the machine name changes, update "db2nodes.cfg"

You may want to get conformation from IBM before attempting that - but it might help you.

Thanks Rick, already moved it and it works fine, did not change the name only the ip address.
