db2 express-c remote access

Hi,

I recently switched from MySQL to IBM DB2 9 Express-C and I've got a problem. I can't connect to the port 50000 from a remote location. When I'm connecting from localhost (where db2 is installed) it's all fine. Is there a setting in dbm conf to enable remote access or is it done another way? I looked for the solution for some time now, but without success

I know that's a newbie question, but I really couldn't find the answer so far.

db2set DB2COMM=TCPIP

db2 update dbm cfg using svcename <servicname/port>

stop and start the instance and check

netstat -an

output. port 50000 should be LISTENing.

A few basic things to check:

1. Have you got a record in /etc/services for the db2 instance?
2. If 1. then is it using port 50000.
3. Is db2 specifying the correct service name. Yo can just specify the port, but I wouldn't - it's easier to do it as a service name.
4. Has the server got a firewall running. Try switching the firewall off temporarily. Note that the db2 discovery service doesn't use the db2 instance port number - so just opening port 50000 in the firewall will not allow discovery to work. For security, I would always keep discovery off or blocked, except when I know I'm wanting to register a database.
5. Is anything else using port 50000? It's not a good default since I think some HP hardware monitoring software uses that port as well.

Damn.. It was WinXP firewall that was blocking the remote connections. I added the port as an exception and it works fine now. Me l4m3 ;/ I actually tried loads of other things bot forgot about that.
