I am investigaing DB. It looks very cool. I have been using VB3-6 and Java. Some questions on DB:

1. Is there a way to access databases?
What are the options and methods.
2. Can network (internet) software be written more easily than VB? I am thinking multi-user software like (Doom-TFC etc.).

3. Does it support standard Windows interface controls (Label, TextBox, ListBox, ComboBox, Buttons, Radio Buttons, CheckBoxes, TextBox (MulitLine - Memo types) etc.)?

4. Is there any reason you could not create commercial business applications using DB?

Thanks very much for your time,

Michael

As an addition to that, I just found ClickTeam's Jamagic on the net the other day. It's similar to DarkBasic, but more powerful.

I don't know if you can link to databases with it, but it can do networking, 3D, standard Windows controls, etc... It has a nice IDE, with syntax highlighting, etc..., has built in graphics, sound and 3D editors, each of which can use several different file formats. Also, not implemented yet, but for the future, it may be cross-platform compatible, so for example, a program written on the PC will work on an Apple Mac.

Go download the demo (~20Mb) from

There's no reason why you can't write commercial business applications with it, IMO. I haven't bought it yet - still using the demo - but I'm likely to buy it soon. This is the downside - it costs around £70 (but I believe that's still cheaper than Blitz 3D!). And on that version, you get a small message from ClickTeam when the program closes down, but I'm not shelling out £700 for the professional version!!!

BTW, it's written by the people who did STOS and AMOS all those years ago, so they know what they're doing!!! ;)

some really depressed and biased people around here, I see...

1. Not sure...Have not much knowledge of Databases... But I think it will be possible. Not easy tough...

2. Yes, I think so.

3. Yes, if you have Darkmatter addon. DLL support + much more!

4. It's all up to you.. You can do it, like few others. But making Commercial class games is never easy. In any platform/language/app...
I'd Say that the speed and you are the biggest obstacles in your way making a fully commercial class game. If you are skilled and patient enough, you can make a commercial class game. You need to be pretty good with DB tough... :) (Logic & optimizing & ideas)

Q 1
