US
Just a heads up. The USA has mandated a change in the start and stop times for Daylight Savings Time. This is effective starting this year (2007).

Who is impacted?
Anyone, at least in the US, running any version of Novell NetWare. The exception is Arizona and any other location that does not observe DST.

What will happen?
Your servers will not adjust time properly. While not major, it will impact time stamps on all files. People will start to complain, and then you'll have to react. It's better to take care of it now.

Is it Automatic?
No. Servers (including Non-Novell servers) do not know about the DST change unless you tell them.

What do I do?
Novell has a tool you can run on ALL Novell NetWare servers. It will automatically adjust the Start and Stop times for Daylight Savings Time.

Is it a patch?
No. It's a tool. It doesn't modify any NLM's, it just modifies the Start and Stop parameters.

Anything I need to know?
It's important that your Time Zone string is set correctly. Otherwise the tool cannot calculate correctly the change that needs to be made.

How do I get the Daylight Savings Time Tool?
Go here:
What do I do with the tool?
Extract it. Copy the files into SYS:SYSTEM. LOAD DSTSHIFT.NLM. That's about it.

How do I know if it worked?
There are 2 things that you should check. Type TIME at the server console. It should report the time, and also the Start and Stop days/times for Daylight Savings. You should notice that it's different than before. (Should probably be March 11th and November 6th). Also, check your AUTOEXEC.NCF and make sure it has been changed there also. Typically that is where the settings are configured, and the DSTSHIFT tool will modify it as well.

What if it doesn't work?
You can set the parameters manually. Just look in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file to see the syntax and duplicate it at the command prompt.

Thanks Marvin.

Thanks - I had forgotten about the time change update.

Thanks for posting that. I was not aware that Java required a separate update. I don't quite understand why this is necessary, but I guess that's not important.

Hey Marvin,

What about NBO's? We are having a hell of a time with the fix Novell gives (Boaupg.zip). No real documentation included.

No idea. I've never used NBO. If I'm not mistaken, Novell has killed NBO completely, so good luck.

Note... I have hacked into the command line before (can't remember what I did). Not too hard to do. Assuming you could do that, you should be able to make the time settings changes.

Thanks, Marvin. I applied the Novell patch and it worked fine. Or I should say, we'll find out in March. But it simply changed the lines in autoexec.ncf to the right dates. Dumb question - should I reboot?

According to the docs, you don't have to reboot.

As far as Windows desktops are concerned...
Since time is sync'ed from the server to the workstation via the NW client, I assume I don't need to worry about patching the workstations, as whatever time they have will be overwritten by the network time.

Am I correct?

After updating Java I am receiving the following errors:

iManager - Unable to create AdminNamespace.
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError

Any ideas?

In addition..and I'm not sure if this is related to the Java issue, but I went to re-install iManager 2.6 and the install option is not listed on the gui. I'm running 6.5 sp5. I'm scratching my head at this point.

Went back and restored the backup of Java, rebooted, all good, did the Java unzip, rebooted, all is now good...not sure what happended the fist time around.

Still missing Install though...

Please ignore my ignorance..Install and Console One GUI selections are back.
