Scenario - User has setup document template letterhead. In the letterhead is a date field in which autoupdate is turned OFF.
Owner brings up template, it shows today's date. He enters the memo body, and saves as a document, thereby generating the memo to send out.
Recipient opens memo.doc up tomorrow (figure of speech) and the date field has changed to tomorrow's date. In this scenario, this nullifies the document.
How can we prevent the date field from changing or being modified, once the template becomes a document? or is this a bug of some sort?

Thanks,
-IQ

Hi,

date field is the CURRENT date.

Just type the date you want.

Thanks for your response, but I'm afraid that didn't quite answer the question. Okay, so if date field is the CURRENT date, and I can understand that... then how would one be able to cause today's date to appear for the generation of the memo, and then lock from being changed when saved as a document..?

Thanks,

You would have to use a macro to enter today's date.

What about a 'createdate' field? From the Word help:

Field codes: CreateDate field
Show All
Hide All
{ CREATEDATE [ \@ "Date-Time Picture"] [Switches]}

Inserts the date and time that a document was first saved with its current name, as recorded on the Statistics tab in the Properties dialog box (File menu).

Unless you select a different format, the date and time are displayed in the format specified as part of the regional settings in Microsoft Windows Control Panel.

But in using the createdate, I'm limited to the header and footer.. This needs to be as in a date field for a memo document.

Is it possible to use this field somehow outside of a header or footer?

Createdate is not limited to header/footer.

BUT, it is the date the document is CREATED. Use in a template.
