I want to setup a two server Farm for my network. I am currently only running one server at the moment. I want to reload a new server with the latest release of XPe 3.0. When using the sql desktop edition and the server that's hosting the datastore dies, how does that affect your farm? Can you load sql desktop on the good server and repoint the farm to look at the new data store? What i am concerned with is how do you recover from a bad/corrupt data store when you have good backups? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

MSDE is "replacing" Access as the preferred support for very small farms.
When the new server will join the farm, you just have to follow the steps in the setup tool or check the XP FR3 admin guide pages 116 and 117 as it introduced MSDE.
The farm will run for 96 hours (no matter what is the datastore either SQL, MSDE, Accees, Oracle or DB2). And, as you have only a 2 server farm, only half of the users would logically be able to connect.

Yes you can change the location of the DataStore at any time if when using MSDE you install it on a farm member server.

Recovering from a bad/corrupted/dead DataStore is just a way of restoring a database from the DB engine you are using. So, refer to the MSDE doc as I never used this engine (I only tested Oracle 8i and SQL 2000)
if you change the location of the DataStore, you will need to run on EACH member server the command :
DSMAINT CONFIG /user:user_to_connect_to_datastore /pwd:its_password /DSN:"location of DSN file"
the DSN file should be newly created to point the ODBC driver to the new database

Whats with the farm only running for 96 hours? And if the server that contains the msde engine dies then none of my users will be able to connect right? I am thinking about adding an additional server with sql server just to cover my butt unless there are some better design alternatives. Thanks for the info so far.
