In CommVault Galaxy for W2K, we have seen the error message "DataPipe buffer allocation failure" quite often during an AuxCopy (Tape to Tape). The AuxCopy then stops, if we press 'resume', the copyjob resumes. Has anyone seen this error and how can it be solved ?

CommVault support has not been very helpful here. They say that it's maybe a hardware issue, but what could it be ?

Tape to Tape will be accessing the Index Cache on the media agent. If this is also the Commserve, check howmany resouces SQL is taking of the physical amount of RAM.

Set it back to 1/3.

suppose if your CS/MA has 2000MB of RAM. Within SQL serv manager, decrease it to 1700MB !

I'm not sure if it works, but it's worth trying.

DataPipe error is a weird error for this...normally it has something to do with the network...thought so

Backupster,

Do you mean that in your example the CommVault server is also an SQL server, or does the CommVault server use an SQL database for it's indexes ?

In our case, the CommVault server has no extra software, it's just a backup server.

But, I also thought a datapipe buffer error would be caused by the network...

Thanks,

Hey jackmans,

that very strange... when your installing a Commserver, your automaticaly installing SQL2000 with SP3 in it. That's part of the installation!

So, CV is using SQL :)

If the "CV Server" does the backups, it's also an Media Agent!

datapipe errors are not indicating a specfic error. But yes, it has to do " something" with the network

Take a look in the logfiles and search for things like "GetHostByName" errors etc. check your dns nameresolving with the CVIPINFO tool (recourse pack". Always use this tool..especially in cluster environments..
