DataDate and Date(YYYY,MM,DD)

In the select expert I want to bring back information the current day. If I enter the date as Date(YYYY,MM,DD) the information is returned with 3 seconds, if I use datadate then it takes forever and a day.

Is there another faster way of achieving this apart from hard coding the date in.

Has anyone got any further suggestions on this one? Can't use currentdate as it obscures the figures in instances as time moves on. I also can't use a parameter as the report needs to run with no intervention.

I'm using CE8.5 and CR8.5
