Advisor Publications have announced that they will be closing their Databased Advisor site at the end of ths month. The site incorporates the old FoxPro Advisor site.

The announcement is here:

Many of us will remember that FoxPro Advisor magazine was, for many years, the leading journal for VFP developers. In October 2007, Advisor stopped publishing the printed version of the magazine, but the articles continued to be available on the DatabBased Advisor site.

Now that site is also closing. As far as I know, the hundreds of VFP-related articles on the site will be lost.

I have to say that this is no surprise. Access to most of the site was by subscription only, and the last time I checked, the subscription was $277 (US dollars) per year. I doubt if even the regular members of this forum took out a subscription (I didn't, even though many of my own articles were on the site).

So this news probably won't affect many of us, but I thought it worth reporting, if only because it is the end of a long era in Foxpro publishing.

I took up the subscription for one year once upon a time, mostly because I talked my company into paying it. But after that, I couldn't justify the expense what with the many helpful sites (like Tek Tips).

There are many good articles there that I would like see archived somewhere else though. Including yours. :)

Thanks for the heads-up, Mike. I, of course, have dozens of articles there. Guess it's time to figure out whether I can post any of them on my own site.

There are a couple of articles that are public that I still point people to regularly, too.

Odd announcement, eh?

They're going *mainstream* by focusing on .... Filemaker?!?!?!

Assuming that we could get the articles out of the Advisor, I wonder if we could get Tek-Tips to put them somewhere associated with this forum?

I've been wondering about posting my own articles on my own site. The problem is that I don't have an electronic version of the final edited versions in most cases - and probably not most of the screen shots.

I don't understand why Advisor don't just keep the site open, and make it free. After all, they've already paid all the costs, and the site has plenty of advertising to generate some revenue for them. But what I do know.
