database verification

Ok, I run verify database (Crystal 8.5) and each table comes up with:
The database file 'table name' has changed. Proceeding to fix up the report

What is happening in the background actually?

Crystal is recognizing changes in the table structure.

Who makes the changes? I am working as a consultant and in the loop with what might happen day to day in the Co's IT dept. What kind of changes? Can changes bomb old reports?
Like is it important to verify your database and save each time to stay on top or does Crystal address this on its own?
