Hello Again
I am learning as I go with SMS2003 it was handed to me last week when the SR admin Left.

I created a query that pulled all the xp machines. I noticed that the service pack level on some of the machines was not correct according to SMS. How can check the database to see if its up to date. Or rather can run something to have the SMS server "POLL" the machines again to update the database?

Thanks

You will have your site server configured to run Hardware Inventory

Site Settings > Client Agents > Hardware Inventory Cycle

this is the agent that returns all the information from the client machines. This will run according to the schedule set in the above configuration. Probably every 7 days or something similar.

If it is reporting a Service pack revision, then this will most likely be right, machines can't really report dead data, unless it was corrupted on the machine it's self. You either get no, or correct data.

To check what the client actually contains

start
run
"wbemtest"
ok
connect
"\\clienttargetpcname\root\cimv2"
enter username and passwords
connect
Open Class
"win32_operatingsystem"
click Instances, from the right hand list of buttons
double click the retrieved instance.
look for property : "CSDVersion"

what ever is the contents of that data, that is what SMS returns.

Hope this Helps.

Thanks Neil

The hardware inventory was not turned on. So I have enabled it to run and will check the results either later today or monday.

that will have been your problem. It cant see anything more than the ip/subnet/osversion (not inc sp)/comp name basically without hinv on.

BTW - HINV and SINV are common pseudonames for Hardware Inventory and Software Inventory respectively.

Hope this Helps.
