I have been given an excel spreadsheet to convert into an interactive database. A small issue i have to convert into the database and also reports is how to map the following scenario.

I have a list of towns in column A but this town is covered by three different areas. These are covered in columns D,E,F. Some towns are covered by two or three different areas.

My questions are

A) what is the best to reconstruct and replicate this in the database and secondly

B) leading on from A what is the best way to compile a report to show towns are covered by certain areas?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

It seems to me that you will need an Area table, a Town table and a TownArea table. TownArea would contain the TownID and the AreaID, which together would be the primary key. By joining all three tables in a query, you can show towns covered by areas of areas with any grouping that seems appropriate.
