Hello,

I manage a database with a back end and front end both located on a network server but within different directories.

Speed or security is not an issue and I would like to combine the database once again and therefore be fully located within one directory. Is there a proper way to undo this database split?

My main reason for this is because I am attempting to make a copy of our database onto a CD to use at other locations, but wherever I copy the front end database to, it will look for the back end at the original network location and will not open. Is there a better way to address this problem other than attempting to undo the back end split?

Thanks in advance for your help.

As you stated, speed & security is not an issue. Therefore combing the front with the back should not present any huge problems. The way I would do this is to import all of the objects from the front (queries, forms, reports, macros, modules) into the back-end database. That way the two will be combined.

If you wanted to keep them seperate, but want them to be easily transportable, you could always transfer the back-end to the same directory as the front-end & relink the tables... James Goodman

If your BackEnd has all the "forms, reports, macros and modules" you should be OK. If not Import the forms, reports, macros and modules into the Backend. Rename the Backend (InventoryBackEnd.mdb, to Inventory.mdb). How many concurrent users do you think you have. I encountered "already inuse" message and was the reason I went to "BackEnd/FrontEnd". Since the FrontEnd on each deasktop, users can create there own reports and queries to suplment the already available reports, queries, forms.

Thanks for the response. We only have about 20 users and they mostly use it for read only access and no one other than myself creates queries, reports etc.
