I was wondering what are some VSS databse sizes out there. I read that Microsoft recommends 3-5 GB, but was wondering if anyone is exceeding that and what kind of effects it may be having?

At a recent British Computer Society's Config Management day it was indicated that a lot of organsiations are migrating off SourceSafe when the database grew to more than 1.5 gig. Some seem to be finding it unwieldy.

We're at 1.7 gig and not suffering any problems so far (beyond the normal occasional losing of user rights) and response times are well within our expectations.

Obviously the hardware spec has a lot to do with the performance of VSS.

We run 2 ssafe dbs, each 5+ GB, without significant problems.

Well, if you have to restore 6 or 5 GB. You will see, Source Safe will not responding!!!.
