As far as I know, there is no limit to the amount of records you can put into an Access db for it to work effectively. Can anyone confirm this? I have someone who is worried that the little db I designed for her will not work if she enters over 12,000 records. Thank you!

Peg

12,000 is definitely within the acceptable range. i don't know what the limit is (or if there is one) but i have tables with over 250,000 records.

If you did the database in a2K, max database size is 2GB. That should her a few million or so of her records.

if you used A97, you're down to only 1GB which might concern her even more. Robert Berman

And even if you come close to hitting the 2GB limit, there are ways around it - splitting the back end and linking to both parts is one possibility.

A more serious thought though, is that if you are up over 1GB you should ask whether Access is the right vehicle. SQL server might be more apropriate.

Or a redesign of your system with a tad of attention to both proper design and some good coding technique. Robert Berman
