Database issues

I hope this is the correct forum

I have a whole series of If statements, which dependant on the value of the db, displays whatever the if statement says, however my problems starts whe I have a default text on the field, it is changing to the value of -1 for no apparant reason, does anyone have any solution?

Access is changing my default value to -1, and 0 as in true and false, but I have fixed it by changing my field values.
