Database is already in Use

Hi, I'm running Domino 6.0.1R. I've had this problem happen three times this week with three different users. Messages are not being delivered to some internal people. I look in the logs and it says something like this "this database is being used by someone else. In order to use the same database you must run a Domino server and not a file server". The only way I can get this person's email to go through now is to shutdown and restart. I don't know what it wants. Has anyone had this problem before?

Sounds to me like someone has network access to the mail file directory and is using a Local icon directly - bypassing the server.
The message you get only occurs - to my knowledge - when a user opens a Notes db without the server.
I would check who has access to the physical disk and ensure that those people are using the right Notes icons - in other words, make sure they are accessing the db via the Server.

I had this problem also, and found that my backup-software was misconfigured and started backup at noon. So when a user tried to acccess a database which was backup at this moment, I got this error-message.

Hi, I figured it out. It was my backup software also. I now have it backing up at midnight and I haven't had that message since. Thanks for the help.
