How do I insert a record into one table, using a calculated field from another, without having to first store the value in a variable?

Ok something like thiS
INSERT INTO XXX VALUES(SELECT SUM(XXX) FROM YYY) or something

I found it. The syntax is "INSERT INTO....SELECT..."
Thanks anyway.
