Help

I am very new to MySql. I have inherited a website. The previous webmaster used a MySql database for news items.

I took a back up of the whole site using FTP, then restored simply by FTP the files back up, but the database now seems corrupt

I have attached a word doc to show the errors I get. it seems as thought the database has duplicated itself

The coding on the web pages has NOT been modified

Desperately need some help here

Could you copy the text of the error into the page, I don't like opening word doc's from people I don't know.
I suspect that FTPing the files is the source of any errors.
Did you not think to have a quick google about backing up and restoring mysql databases before you did this ?
an you recall if the service was stoped? did you ftp the files as binary?

Hi Ingresma, thanks for the reply

The problem is now sorted. Somehow during the download and subsequent upload the php files containing the html coding duplicated themselves. By which I mean all the html coding in each file was effectively copied then pasted beneath itself meaning the information on each page was duplicated, and of course the sql coding was also duplicated resulting in the errors

I had just thought I could download everything, but apparently not. Just noticed that the FTP client I am using has binary / ascii and auto for download options, so i will have play with that and see what happens

I did not google it - ignorance on my part. I can now see that there is specific routines for backing up mysql databases
