Hi,

I am using crystal reports 8.5 Developer and REport Application Server.

I created a report off oracle database using CR Driver VEr8. When I run this report stand alone, its asking user id and password and it is running fine. I copied this report into the reports folder and access from eportfolio after launching RAS, its asking userid and password but even though I enter the correct userid/password, its saying "The database logon was not successful. Please re-enter your logon information and try again". I am using the same userid and password when I run this report stand alone.

I could succesfully run other reports running against other databases (off oracle database). anybody has any ideas on this?

thanks

Hi,
Check to be sure the TNSNAMES entry on the CE server is the same as the one on your PC for that database instance.
Is the ODBC DSN that this report uses configured on the CE server as a system DSN with the same name as the one on your PC?
( assuming you are running stand alone from a different machine than the CE server)

Sorry that this doesn't help, but I have the same problem when ever I link to an Excel spread sheet. Again works fine in CR but using CE and eportfolio, I get either the database login error or an invalid argument error.

I try not to use Excel, but the users like to do alot of stuff in it (spreadmart) and then expect reports to report on data within a SQL server database and the spread sheets.

Hi,
I'm confused ( not all that rare), but how does Excel relate to your question? You indicated the report was using Oracle as its data source.

Accesing an Excel file is a different ball of wax altogether
and requires, among other things, that the CE services run under an account that has file-system access to the excel file's location.

Thank you Turkbear, I am running the stand alone report from a different machine other than the CE server.

Do i need to (do both)create system ODBC as well as entry into the TNSNames on the CE server or TNSNames entry is enough?

thanks

Hi,
If using ODBC then Both...

If using a Native Connection ( my preferred method) then only the Tnanames needs the info.

To jcoleman:
Right click the service in the CCM and the 'properties' will show you the account.
( By default it runs under the Local system account, to change it, stop the service and select a user account to use ( should be a Domain account with rights needed to access the file))
