We have old images that are no longer needed. We wanted to expire the images and was going to do it through the gui>catalog>search for the image and then right click on the image and select "expire" to expire the image. Is there anything else after this we need to do to reclaim that space in the netbackup catalog database other than running the bpimage -cleanup -allclients? We have several thousand images that we would like to expire and we want our database to get that space back after we expire the images. Not all of them images are on the same tape so we can't expire the tape as some of the tapes have valid images we still need. the images span over 5 years. Thanks.

Nothing else you have to do. The Administration Guide has a formular which helps to calculate the size of the catalog and it has a whole chapter about the catalog.

I am surprised to hear you have so many old images? You might want to suggest a change of strategy. We usually don't expire our images manually (besides the ones created for testing things). They expire automatically due to the retention level they are set to.

Thanks yep thats what brought all of this about, a change in the company strategy. They were keeping developement month-end backups permanent. They have adjusted that strategy to only include production month-end backups and they want the developement month-end backups wiped clean from the catalog so we need to go back and expire them manually instead of them expiring automatically like non-month end do.
