We are in the process of building a data warehouse and I would like to know ahead of time if there are any gotcha's I need to be aware of. The source data is a SQL Server 2000 and the warehouse will likely be the same. Would I simply connect through ODBC and then design as usual?

Thanks for any info.

Will you be using Crystal Reports to view/print data in the warehouse? If so, there are many things the DBA can do to make reporting easier, faster and more stable. Be careful of overnormalization. If your report developers want descriptions stored where a code will do, trust them. Build tables and processes that de-normalize data and prepare it for reporting. Keep this in mind as you design and you will save lots of money on report development down the road.
