Data Type Size Error: When importing from excel

I am importing from excel to sql server, and am getting the following error:
"the field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. try inserting or pasting less data"
I am at nvarchar(255)
How can I solve this problem?

The varchar data type will allow up to a size of 8000.

How are you importing the data?
