Data Pipeline help.

I am working on a new db conversion program, and I am fortunate enough to have an existing one here to guide me.

one question is: what are the uses of Data Pipelines?

My conversion is very small, just a few updates, I was thinking of inserting the sql code right into a function and not using a data pipeline.
Is this ok?

one other thing:
the field on the Data Pipeline screen 'Key' states that its for the primary key, but it doesn't seem to add a key rather an index.

I;m using PB 6.0 too

Usage of Data Pipeline is to port the data from one table in DB_a to the same table in DB_b with a condition that have the same table structures, like no. of columns, datatype....etc
