Data filtering

Hi, I am a newbie to sharepoint, although i have worked well in .NET. I have fundamental knowledge on shareopint. I have a requirement, which i am not sure on how to address it.. In our intranet site we have blogs. Blogs which are older will be archived. The requirement is to enhance the search functionality so that user will be able to search ONLY within the archived blogs by providing date range. ( generic search within the blog is retrieving all the records in the blog including the archived ones)..could someone please help me in this..

Perhaps you can create an index and crawl which targets only the archive location. I'm reaching because I suspect you're using 2K7 (which I don't have).
