Help!

When trying to label my DDS4 Stand Alone media tape, it fails and I get the alert "Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)".

Thanks

Before switching to an autoloader, we used to get that error all the time with the DDS3 tape drive we used. I finally learned that it was indicative of the drive needing to be cleaned. Whenever I got the error I would stick a cleaning tape in there and rerun the backup afterwards. It would go just fine after that.

I just looked through the event viewer and noticed the "Need Cleaning" alert. I will try that. Thanks!

btw... This worked like a charm! Backup Exec is now able to see the media and backup to it. I had to clean it a few times (don't know why didn't work the first time).

Thanks Again,
BMF

Sometimes a drive is just so dirty that just one cleaning won't do it. I personally don't know how it gets to be that dirty, but it's good to know that multiple uses of a cleaning tape will usually clear up the problem.
