Hi Tekers,

I have a rather long form that could not fit in the workspace. I have to divide it up to 2 forms (as 2 pages). Both forms are mapped to the same table.

On the first page; it is ok. On the second page, I have some concerns and hope that some 1 can give me some tips on how to do this nicely.

What I want to do is to continue to add data to the second page (or form). I minimized each form as I go back and forth; this works thus far. Initially, when open the second page (form) how would I make it so that it will know that I want to continue to do data entry. I have tried such methods:

- Grab the recordid on the first page (forms) and passed it on to the second page (form)

- Tried to play around with filter since the second page (form) is based on the same table as the first page (did not work... might be my lack of experience with this feature..)

Can any one suggest a smoother way to do this.????

TIA

I think that the easiest would be to use one form and a tab control to split the data. That way when you leave the last field on tab page 1 you can switch over to tab page 2 and they can continue the data entry.

I believe the problem you are having with the two forms is that you would have to commit the data in the first form to the table before opening the second form and then going to the record just added. The biggest issue here is if there are any required fields on the second form you will not be able to save the record from the first form.

Hope this helps.

Hi OTF,

You are absolutely right. I thought of this, but it was tooooo late for switching over. I wish I can forsee this ahead.

Fortunately, the second page is just a continuation on the first and the only field that requires to send over is the record id which I did.

Anyway, what I did was not to set the second form in data entry mode. Set filter to get back to the current record and start to chuck away as usual. This is not pretty but it works (crossed my finger here...).

Thanks for your input.

Hi all,

I thought I have solved this but ran into write conflict problem. I knew how this happen but just want to ask you if I can avoid this at all.

As I have described in my prev. posts. I have a very lenghth form that have to cut into 2 pages. They both have record source point to the same table. On page 1 (data entry mode = yes), I entered data and everything works accordingly.

On going into page 2, I have minimzed page 1 and bring up page 2. I have allowed them to be toggled back and forth. However, when time come to save data, I received the write conflict error.

I knew the fact that page 1 is not closed and still in data entry mode. So when I open page 2 and do some more data entry and try to save it; it indicates that the record being edit by someone while I am doing data entry on page 2. This raises the write conflict and only saves data that I have done one page 2.

Anyhow, is there a way that I can have these 2 pages that have the same recordsource and available in the data entry mode.????

TIA

There are two things you can do. To avoid the write conflict you would have to commit the record to memory before they can access form 2.

Or you can make both forms unbound, let them enter the data and then they click a save button and you enter the data into a table at that time.

Hope this helps.
