Data Access Pages

I generated a data access page but when viewed in the browser, I cannot type in or edit any of the fields. Is there something else I need to do to the page?

What I want to do is have a page on the Internet which I generated the page from a table to have people to be able to input data on the page and the info is automatically sent to the database. Pls help.

You must place the PRIMARY KEY of the table on the DAP. Since this is built directly from the table, it should be no problem. If you build one from a query, remember to put all the primary keys from the included tables.

Is there a way to have the DAP open in add mode? I do not want to have all the other records available. Only want to have a blank form displayed for input entry only which the data will go into the database.

For this to work on the web, would I just upload the DAP - does the database have to be on the server or the table?

In design view, bring up the property sheet. Then click on Edit - Select Page. On the property sheet, click on the All tab and next to Data Entry, change it to True.

Tks - this seems complicated. If I should use it on the intranet, would it be the same procedures?

Do you have to use DAP using IE? Can Netscape be used?

DAP's can only be used with I.E. version 5.0 and greater, no Netscape.
Since you're on an INTRAnet, consider splitting the database, look in any access book or search the access forums in tek-tips.
Or just put your database on a shared drive and have the users use the db directly. Have an entry form to verify login ID and password which leads to the data entry form.
DAP's do take awhile to understand and utilize.
If you do want to go INTERnet, a cheap and quick way is to set up a Citrix server (

http://www.citrix.com).

The users then remotely login and use the database directly. Saves you from learning any web programmming.

We thought about a shared drive but it would be a lot to keep track of permissions since dealing with about 300 people. That's why I was looking to having it on a web page on the INTRAnet where people can just access and submit their entry. When you say splitting the database, you mean parts of it would be on the server?

Yes. You would first make a backup of your database (copy/paste). Then click Tools - Database Utilities - Database splitter. This will create another database with just the tables. The other database will contain the forms, reports, queries. You'd place the table database on the server and make copies of the first database to give to the users through replication. So I guess in your case, you'd have 300 copies.
All this is really explained in any Access book.

Doing the splitter and putting the table database on the server, and also putting the DAP on the server - wouldn't they be able to assess the DAP via a web page and the info entered would go the the table database?

You're missing a concept. A DAP IS a web page. It is not part of Access. It is stored as a .htm file outside of Access and Access points to it.
But you said deploying a DAP sounded to complicated. Make a decision and do the work.

I did not say DAP sounded complicated. The process of getting it to update the table is what I am trying to do. I already have the DAP generated and I would upload that page to the server. What I want to figure out is how to get the input data to go into the Access table. And when you mentioned the splitter, I was wondering if the table of the database was put onto the server - would that work.

When someone enters data on the DAP, the data populates the table. That's the purpose of a DAP. Yes, the database is on the server.
