I have a Voodoo 3 graphics card and constantly get errors and fatal exceptions in Win 98.

Often the system loads two identical monitors which must be removed using Device manager.

There was a physical problem in that I noticed that one of the pins in the CARD end of the monitor connection lead was badly bent and touching the metal outer casing. This caused the monitor display controls to stop functioning. Could this have also damaged the CARD by shorting, etc.?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Exactly, and instead of messing up your system anymore, I'd advise to get a new one. It will cost you less in the longrun.

How long have you had the card? Maybe it is covered under warrenty. You may be able to send it the manufactur, pay a small fee and get a replacement

That made me smile :)
I am a bit surprised that you straightened the pins whilst the computer was turned on.
Probably is damaged (could be a memory problem)
unfortunately not economically repairable.
