Help, as I am having problem daisy chaining together 2 Cisco Catalyst 2900XL switches.I have just relocated and setup the switches how they used to be setup. i.e. the first port from each switch being used to link to the two switches together. However there is no signal passing between them.

Does anyone know why this is and how to solve this issue.

thanks.

I would look either at a bad cable to an incorrect cable. You need a twisted (or crossover) cable to connect the two switches together. Do you have green link lights on both switches? Have you logged into the switches and looked at the port status for each *bad* port? Are they locked to 100 full? auto? I would lock them to 100 Mbps and Full duplex for starters.

I've been using a normal cat5 patch cable. Is this not correct?
And the LED's do not light up at all.

No- it's not correct. When you connect switch to switch, you need a crossover cable which flips the Tx and Rx pairs. Just a fiber run, TX goes to a RX port and so on. Same thing with copper. Sometimes ports will self-configure but most will not.

Get the crossover cable and i bet things will come back to life nicely.

hi there. i have a problem i still can't cascade my 2 2924XL cisco switches. I already have a cross over cable. I plug the first one on port 4 the other in port 1 but the LED doesn't light up.. =( can someone shed me some help.. here thanks....

Make sure the ports that you are using are not disabled or set up to be used as trunk links etc.. You can do this by HTPP into you switch with the switch ip address, from there you will see a visual representation of your switch. once there you can double click the questioned port to see there configuration. You could issuing the show interface f x/x command ( at the priv # level ) to see if the ports in question are configured properly.
