I currently have the wired linksys 4 port working and configured using 1 static ip from RoadRunner sharing that 1 ip w/ 3 machines, but also have the wireless Linksys
that i would like to use, how can i
daisy chain or hook up the wireless linksys to the wired so i
can work wirelessly ??

Thanx

You should be able to run from the Uplink port (port 1) of the wired one, to the WAN port of the wireless, and distribute more PCs from there. Newposter

any special settings though on the wireless one now to distibute more pc's ??

thanks dude

protos,
hi! by the way...the wireless Linksys that you have..is that a router, an access point or simply a wireless adapter?
because it would have a different settings...depends on what you are using!!! tell me more about your set up..ok?

I have the same question - I have an existing Linksys router hooked up to a cable modem, and I wish to attach a Linksys Wireless access point router. I already figured out I need to change the wireless router's address from 192.168.1.1 to something else so as not to conflict with the plain Linksys router's address, but what else do I need to do? I know my cable modem company cares about the mac address on the regular router, but will they "see" the mac address on the wireless router, do I have to do anything there? Anything else I need to be concerned with? Thanks.

Eihtur,
thanks

its a 4 port router, Wap11 i believe. I have roadrunner cable modem, going into the 4 port linksys wired router,
then 4 ports go into 4 bedrooms. The only port open on the wired router therefore, is the Wan port.

i have the wired router setup as dhcp, dishing out internal ip's and thats it basically.

thanx

OK, the following seems to work fine, both on my home system and at my client's.

- The regular router and the wireless router were both by default using 192.168.1.1 as the local address, with a conflict. I used the browser admin interface on the wireless router to change its settings to 192.168.1.205 (arbitrary number 205, anything greater than 1 through 10 and less than 255 should work and not interfere with the DHCP addresses handed out to attaching PCs on the LAN).
- I connected from the UPLINK port on the wireless router to a port I made available on the regular router. (All the ports on the regular router were in use, so I moved a PC from the regular router, used its port for the wireless router, and plugged the PC into port 2 on the wireless router).
- This worked, all the existing PCs still had Internet broadband (cable modem) access, and so now did wireless clients. The WAN port on the wireless router is unused and thus inactive and doesn't seem to be an issue.

The last post was incorrect - the setup only worked temporarily (an hour or less). After a period of time any PCs attached to the wireless router (either through a LAN port on the wireless router or via its wireless connection) could no longer access the Internet. On investigation I saw that these PCs had switched Gateway server from the regular Linksys WAN router to the wireless router and could no longer find a DNS server. I used the browser admin client to access the wireless router config pages and disabled DHCP. This seems to have fixed the problem but who knows... I'll let you know tomorrow!

IT WORKED! Everything has been up and running since last night now, so to summarize:

- Change the wireless router's default local IP address so it doesn't conflict with the regular Linksys router's address
- Disable DHCP on the wireless router
- Connect the UPLINK port on the wireless Linksys router to a PC Internet connection port on the regular Linksys WAN router.
- Install the wireless card in your laptop or PC and you're done.

protos,
ok!!!this should have been your network set up...from the modem (either Cable or DSL modem) connect that one on the WAN port of the router, and from the router...connect the computers to the regular ports...then connect the WAP 11 to the one of the regular ports on the router...make sure that the link lights on the WAP is solid green coz it means that the WAP11 is connected to the router. then from there use now your wireless computers using wireless adapters...and you can distribute more PC from there..wirelessly.
hope that would help
