Hi,

NOOB question.

I know, it is weird, but we can't do anything else until next couple months...

I would like to set-up a daily bkp on a single tape, that will be erased (so recycled) everyday just before the backup.
Why ? Because we have no other way to do it currently, waiting for a library, and everybody on the site in holidays, so no way to change the tape daily....

Today, it always put the tape in append, and i can't get rid of it.

Any idea or script ?

Thank you and Regards.

Hi kikithefly,

little dangerous, but as you wish ;-)

nsrmm -Rym

- it relabels tape in drive without confirmation and then mount it

You can also enable Auto Media Management on drive and every day set tape mode to recyclable, it is little secure than manual relabeling - when something fails before data is backed up, you can still recover data from recyclable tape :

nsrmm -u
nsrmm -yo recyclable

- first unmount tape, set mode, then Networker on time of scheduled backup detect recyclable tape in drive and relabels it

Regards

Thank You Milanvo.

Another NOOB question :
How can i set-up or enter what u said in the GUI mode (using windows W2K) ?

Sorry for my lack of knoledge on this domain, my network admin being no there.

Regards.

Question is if you want to do it once (manually) or scheduled.

If scheduled, you have to write commands to .bat file and create in Control Panel - Scheduled task

If manually, you can do it in Networker administrator, on Configue tab open Devices, right mouse on device (\\.\Tape0 for example), Operations and there you can mount, unmount, label tape. Do NOT do EJECT if remote location is without operator ;-)

Thank you very much for your help and patience Milanvo.
I will apply that in a batch file.

Regards.

You may also use "Auto Media Management" for the device. However, this would mean that you have to set the tape to recyclable every day (you may do this from the GUI).

Although i can understand why you want to do this, please keep in mind that this is dangerous - you never keep another instance of your backups. And you will wear the tape extensively.
