hi !
when I'm installing personal oracle 9i
and developer 2000 - forms 6i, I'm unable to
connect the database from forms ?
After installing when I try to connect the
oracle database with forms by pressing CTRL+J
I'm getting TNS error.
Please give some advice to connect to the database.

thankyou.

Have you modified the TNSNAMES file in the Oracle home for Forms 6i?

6i and 9i will be in separate homes so make sure you are modifying the correct file.

can you please give full details
about modifying the TNSNAMES file
in oracle home ?

If you are not familiar with modifying TNS files, use the NET8 easy config utility that should have been installed alongside your forms. You will need to know the machine name you are on and the database SID you assigned when you created the database.

Hi I tried the net8 easy config, but still
unable to connect :(
can you please give more details...
thankyou.

Obviously the SID is the name of the database you specified when you created it.

I am assuming the DB and developer software have been installed on a PC runnning Windows. The name of your machine can be found by right clicking on 'My Computer' and then (depending on which version of Windows you are using) looking for 'computer name' or 'full computer name'.

I'm not sure if personal Oracle 9i requires a listener to be set up seperately, but I have 9i Enterprise running on my laptop without the need to start up a listener, and I can connect fine.
