Dear Experts,
One of my customer is using Avaya Definity system version2.1. We have a total of 7 SSC port cabinets with 5 DS1 boards
in it. for past couple of days D channel of all DS1 show out of service. Initially we though that the issue might be with service provider. Service provider checked and confirmed that there is no issue from their end. Also CLAN link is up but unable to Ping the Clan. We have tried the below steps for trouble shooting.

• We tried by replacing the CLAN card, but even after replacing the CLAN card there was no ping response
• Tried by replacing the Ethernet adapter for CLAN
• Checked for the connectivity with onsite network switch, the connectivity was present
• Tested the connection to Avaya via term Port on cabinet. Avaya Definity system was accessible
• Tried deleting and adding the CLAN, but still the issue was not resolved
• Added new CLAN in another cabinet with new IP address but there was no ping
• Replaced the DC power supply.
• Refitted the motherboard connector for CLAN, but no ping response. Also changed the back plane interconnecting cable for Port network 1
• Tried rebooting the system, after reboot all DS1 and CLAN came up in service for around 30 minutes or so. after that first Ping response stopped and after few minutes D channel of all DS1 gone out of service. After that it never came up.
• Created a local unmanaged network to check the ping , but no ping response
• Swapped the control cards like Netconnect, tone/clock, etc. but no ping response
• Replaced the motherboard connector for CLAN.
• Checked all the associated program for CLAN and PRI signaling and synchronization, but still D channel is out of service
• Checked by replacing the DS1 card, but still the same.
• Created a local managed networks but still no ping response
• Changed SSC port cabinet, but still the issue is same.

Need your help as to how to troubleshoot the issue

Regards
Sandeep

Sounds like packet bus issue

Do you have pkt-int or pkt-bus hardware issues.

Post your alarms and CM software version

We have already replaced the TN2401/TN2400 sandwich board. Old as well as new board is showing Alarm indication on the board. However, display alarm does not show any specific alarm related to this board. We tried adding TN771 Maintenance card to the system, but neither the card was detected automatically nor did the board got added manually. Every time we added the board manually, it shown the board was added. When we ran the command List Config all, that board was not shown in the system.

Also what have is observed that if the alarm on the TN2401/TN2400 sandwich board goes off, the D-Channel and CLAN comes in service. But for last 7-8 days there is not a single minute that the alarm gone off.

Warm Regards
Sandeep

Request you to please elaborate on what does power back up mean.

I am arranging for TN2401/TN2400 boards which will take some time.

Also in one of the lime you had mentioned about the TN2404 Processor. What is the meaning of that line. this is my first time on definity. that is the reason I am asking. Does the replacement of these boards related to regeneration of license like that of IPSI on older version CM?

I would be grateful if you could explain it.

replacing processor circuit packs requires power down of carrier A.
replacing white label processor packs while power is on, can damage all packs in the carrier.

Ideal testing for this would be unplug all packs in all carriers, plug in processor complex packs only and power system up. Login and check alarms to see if packet bus
is working.
next step plug in tn771 maintenance board (one in each port network). Then ds1 boards, clan, medpro boards. As you plug them in see if insertion any board causes the packet bus
to go out-of-service. Any board on the tdm bus can cause outage of the packet bus.

These alarms indicate defective tn2401/tn2400

Testing a system with a tn2404 processor that is not the licensed serial number of your translations, will cause license error, but testing will prove operation of processor and net/pkt boards is functional with no pkt bus alarms.

Greetings AvayaTier3(TechnicalUser)...
Today I received another set of TN2401/TN2400 boards and TN2404 board.

First of all I replaced TN2401/TN2400 board and powered up the system. After powering up the system 1 out of 4 PRI line came in service. I tried busyout trunk, reset board, busyout port <Port number of signaling group> for remaining PRI trunk lines, but no luck. In the alarm report I am still getting the Packet Bus Major alarm. However there was no IO-PROCR alarm after replacing this board

Next I replaced Processor TN2404. Unfortunately it looks like that the processor board TN2404 was defective and the system didn't boot. So I reinserted the old Processor card.

Also I tried adding the TN771 maintenance card. The card was not added automatically. So I added it by change circuit pack command. I get message the command completed successfully, but in list configuration carrier 01A, the slot shows empty despite of adding. The card keeps on showing Alarm Indication.

Next I disconnected all the cards, carriers and kept only TN2404, TN2401 and TN 2400 cards in carrier A and executed display alarm. Packet bus alarm was still present along with the other alarms referring to the boards removed.

Below are the report for alarms and error after installing new set of TN2401/TN2400 boards

It appears that you have system duplication.

Duplicated A and B carrier complexes have separate processor and packet bus control.
When spe-A active the packet bus is controlled by net/pkt 1A
When spe-B active the packet bus is controlled by net/pkt 1B

When you strip down hardware, minimum config would include both processors, duplication boards, network/packet circuit packs.
Plug in tn771 with each active and see if it inserts. It is not necessary to change circuit-pack to add a tn771.
Command: list configuration control and post.

Hello,
your analysis is correct. It is duplicated system. But duplication is not working for past few years. this problem has started last month. Except for TN2404 Processor cards, rest all the cards have been replaced in both carrier A and B (like TN2401/TN2400, TN792, TN2812, TN570D for PN1 and PN2) but no luck. We also replaced Processor cards TN2404, but on those new cards, system fails to boot. Also those cards over heat. I presume that both the cards that I have are faulty.

We tried booting the system by disconnecting all the control cards (TN2404,TN2401/TN2400, TN792, TN2812) in carrier B, i.e. control cards only in carrier A; but system does not boot. We also tried by removing all control cards from carrier A and booting the system using carrier B. System Fails to boot. When all the control cards are inserted; i.e. in carrier A and B; system boots up normally but all DS1' s signaling are out of service. Also status packet interface show all 5 bus out of service.

Also TN771D is neither detected by the system automatically, nor the system is allowing us to add manually. When we add TN771D manually, it says command completed successfully. But when we run List configuration, the card is not there. Also alarm LED glows on the card.

As per you instruction, please find below the output of List Configuration All

Please suggest what needs to be checked now.

check for possible defective cable between carriers A and B as well as bent, broken, shorted pins on the carriers.
May need to replace carrier B.

Can we try to degrade the system to work in simplex mode. What will be the procedure for degrading the system to simplex?

Greetings to you. We had now replaced the carrier B and also the Bus cable between Carrier A and Carrier B. Still the problem is same.

Is there any way by which we can try running the system in simplex system?

Please suggest.

Change "B" control carrier to a port carrier. Remove tn792 duplication in "A" control carrier
