Hi.

Annoying issue - When I copy from a query or table (Access 2003) and paste to an Excel 2000 worksheet, everything works, except if I try to format cells that were pasted, no error comes up, but nothing happens.

I select Format, Cells, and instead of the format screen opening, nothing happens at all.

I can get around it by also including a "natice" cell in my selection, but it is very annoying.

Any settings that I can change to fix this? Should this be posted in an excell forum?

Thanks,
ChaZ

Excel has a tendency to interpret data as text which cannot be formatted. You can test by going to an adjacent cell and adding a value of zero to the cell in question. You will get a result in the new cell that is a numeric value.

the copy / paste approach seems a bit retro ... to me.

Ms. A. will cheerfully export a query to Excel, retaining data types (at least to some point) ... see transfer database for a "command" approach or even -with the query highlighted in hte database window- try file export and follow the prompts. either will generally provides a spreadsheet which is quite usable for formatting.

Not that I am infavor of spreadshets in any general way, but if you MUST, at least do it with some style.

Hi NvrSaDi. It interperts the data correctly. Everything works except the format screen simply won't pop up.

Michael, your views are similar to my own regarding spreadsheets and their manual nature, but as an accountant they are necessary as most folks I send data to need it in a format they can work with, so a PDF or what not won't do.

Thanks for the help,
ChaZ

Hi,

Rather than copy 'n' paste, I use Edit/Get External Data... from Excel, to QUERY other databases like Access. There as setting to maintain format settings etc.
