I have been working on a project that needs to display the customer's name, their most recent upload date of a file, along with the original name of their upload file(custom field).

I suppressed the detail field and grouped the data by the name of the customer. I have the detail field sorted from most recent to oldest. If I put the upload date field and the name of file field in the group header 1, it displays the most recent file for the customer, which is great. However, I do not want the report to sort the group in alphabetical order by customer but by the date field so that I can see out of every upload I'll see the most recent and the customer associated.

I tried creating a higher group which almost seem to work but it would display the customer's name multiple time for a different date.
i.e. 1/5/2012 Sundance INC. New Order list.xls
12/20/2011 Green's Tomatoes Sale Ad.xls
12/15/2011 Sundance INC. Updated price list.xls

I just need to display the most recent upload and the date for each customer but only display the customer once. Again, grouping them by customer's name works but I would like to sort it by the date rather than alphabetically.

Insert a maximum on the date field at the customer group level. Then go to report->group sort and select maximum of date field as your group sort field. You can then remove the maximum from the group footer and suppress the group footer.
