I have a customer that currently has a MICS/NAM System (All 7310 Phones) and they are expanding at Headquarters and also to a remote location. They would like to elimate copper lines and go to PRI for in/out traffic. They will be having a Point to Point T1 line installed for data between HQ and the Remote Site.

All calls to remote site will inbound through HQ.

My questions are the following:
- If we go with a BCM400 at Main and a BCM50 at Remote will the customer be able to internal page and park from HQ to remote side through IP Trunking?

- Are there any issues with 7310 phones on the BCM400 and/or BCM50?

- Would it be better to use centralized voicemail or activate Call Pilot on BCM50 with only 10 users? There will be employees that travel between sites and have a phone with ext. at each loc.

- Any recommendations for a knowledgeable Nortel BCM dealer to sell to myself as an out of state vendor?

1. Can't page over IP trunks (though the documentation seems to suggest you can), since remote page requires that the far end be answered with DISA. IP trunks can't be answered with DISA. I've been able to pick up calls parked on a CSE from a BCM, but have never tried it from BCM to BCM, so maybe someone else can verify if they've done that.

2. Some older 7310 phones (pre release 13, or was it 10) don't support the "Use Set Volume" feature. Volume will always default back to the system volume. Also, the old BLF's on the 7310 don't work anymore either.

3. For 10 users, you might want to keep voicemail local. You'd need MCDN on both systems to make centralized mail work. That might cost more than 10 seats of mail on the BCM 50. Plus, you get access to the full feature set on the BCM 50, some of which are lost when doing centralized mail.

4. Check Nortel's website (click on Products and Services, then Find a Channel Partner).

With regards to point 2., the functioning of the BLF's seems to be hit or miss. I have one site where the BLF's function fine on both 3.6 and 3.7, but I have another site where it doesn't work properly.

I haven't taken the time to see if it's related to age of the BLF's or not. All I know is it's "not supported

Why not just have one BCM and run the remote site with IP phones. That way all the extensions will be on the same system and all you paging, voicemail and parking problems will no longer be problems.

Marchall,

Have you implemented this particular scenario using BCM400 at main site, with IP Phones at remote side?

Can you park calls, page internally from site to site, does message waiting show up on the IP Phones on the remote side.

Any known issues??

What is recommended for Point to Point, any issues with T1 sharing voice and data?

Is CSU/DSU needed at each end, or would you only need a T1 Router?

---------

BIV343, Are you sure that paging/call park over the IP trunks doesn't work, has anybody done this and if so how?

The scenario I suggested will have all of the above working. The extensions will be on the main system so the remote office and main office will be one big system. I have implemented this on numerous occasions. I have just finished a site with 14 satelite offices. The link will require some form of QOS depending on what type of routers you use for the site to site connection. This will be the deciding factor for what type of QOS.

The only thing that will be a problem is no redundancy.

Unless you have some direct lines from a network provider to connect some pots too.
