Custom XDocklet extensions

First of all, Happy New Year!
There is lots of questions about XDocklet I want to ask, coz I didn't found answers with google
Iam understand what it for, and really like the way it works, but there is still questions I wanted to ask.

1) Whats IS IT? I mean, is it a open-source or sun/ibm/*.* project? If yes, then where is this project web page? In jakarta I found common->attributes that seems like analog of xdocklet. Maybe someone used it? Is it correct to compare those to things?
2) Is there any extension mechanizm, allowing to write my own xdocklet tags( and describe how to handle it ) ?
3) ... More questions surely will come from answers on first 2
