Hi all,

Im having problems with custom MMC's on Windows 2000 Pro.

I have created a custom MMC on our Windows 2003 domain controller and placed it into a shared folder.
I can browse to this shared folder from my Windows XP pro machine and can run the custom MMC. It works fine for a customised active directory users and computers.

However, on Windows 2000 Pro machines (using the same domain admin user login) it doesnt work.

I have installed the Adminpak.msi (Windows 2000) yet it comes up with an error when I try to run it; "MMC Cannot open the selected file."

Are M$ trying to force us to upgrade to Windows XP??
Has anyone got a solution to this? :)

Thanks in advance.

The admin tools for XP/2003 cannot be run on 2k stations, the 2k adminpak tools will manage most functions on a 2k3 server but they are NOT supported by MS for this purpose. Basically yes it's a nudge to upgrade your admin PC's to XP.

Thanks for the reply..

Yeah, looks like Micro$oft have disabled this feature. Surely there isnt a technical reason for not being able to implement this - looks like financial to me.

They just don't want to have to test and support two lots of support tools when they say the official 2k3 client is XP so just use that. Yeh it's down to money and effort really.
