Custom Charts in Excel 2000 1

Was wondering if anyone could help.

I'm Have a set of data

name value
a10 8.36
....
a1 2.45

and I would like to have a graph with horizontal bars for the exact values, and then also have a smooth curve on top of the bars (connecting to the exact values)

Is it possible to define this type of graph?

If I am not mistaken, horizontal bars and smooth curve through the points is not possible. Vertical bars and a curve - no problem, but not horizontal.

Well, I might have to settle for that then

First you need to duplicate your Value column

eg
A10 8.36 8.36 etc

Highlight the entire range, plot a column chart with all the options you need. Right click on the second series, select Chart Type and choose Line chart of your liking. Next, point to the line chart, right click on it, choose Format Data Series, and under Patterns tab, check "Smoothed Line"

I haven't explained how to plot the chart, since I assumed you would know.

perfect.. that works great!..

now another Question

How can I set the y axis to a specific value. I dont want excel to auto calculate it, because I have different sets of data (on different graphs) that I would like to compare.

Ah.. nevermind

found that one out on my own..

Point to Y axis, right click on it, choose Format Axis and under the Scale tab, you should be able to play with Maximum and Minimum etc.
