I am trying to execute a batch file from Explorer. I managed to get this to work but when the batch file
executes the current dir is somewhere inside an NT sub-dir rather than the one where the html file is located.

Works OK in Netscape so I guess I want to know how to set the current dir in explorer.
If you could supply an example of your code, it would be easier to see exactly what you are talking about :)
I am including a tag <A HREF="install.bat"> in my html page which runs my batch file install.bat.

This batch file does stuff like:

cd part1
install.exe

or

part2\install

which assumes a working dir of the same as the html page.

This is because I don't know where the cd rom drive is so I can't put d:\part1\install for example.

Since I posted I found that Netscape works ok if I use explorer and click on my html page and let explorer auto load netscape, it correctly sets the CWD. If however I start netscape then load the page the CWD is the CWD of netscape.exe.
