I tried runnning scan disk on my computer after turning off the anti virus software and any other known applications. The scan disk kept re starting because another application apprently is running. It never did/could finish.

Before the scan disk attempt I ran Spybot and Aadware and then updated the antivirus program and ran it.

I used to have a link to an Internet site site but it is gone. It would tell you what was running on your computer when you pressed control alt del. You could look up what was listed on your computer to find out what it was, if and how it could or should be disabled and other information.

Does anyone know of any other site(s)?

Please advise.

Sincerely,

Daniel R. Shirley

Thanks Miker. The scan disk was able to do its job.

I still would like to know if there are any site(s) that Identify what is running on your computer, if it needs to run, if and how to shut if off, etc.

If anyone know, please respond and i will do likewise.

Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Danile. R. Shirley

try a program called hijack this...search google for it.

One website that I've used numerous times when trying to identify programs that are running on a PC is Click on the Task List button, and you'll see a row of buttons labeled "0-9", "A", "B", etc.

For example, if you're wondering what the program MCSHIELD.EXE is, just click on the "M" button, and scroll down until you find MCSHIELD.EXE. The text will tell you what this program is, and this website's recommendation as to what you should do with this particular program. (It's a component of a variety of McAfee Viruscan versions. The recommendation: leave it alone.)

This website does not have EVERY possible program, but it's the first place that I always look for this type of information.

Thank you sir. The site is almost identical to the one I used previously and may have been taken over or moved to this site.

Thanks again.
