thread693-1610652

I hope there is an expert out there that has seen this...

I am having the same issue referenced in the above thread (CTLSVR is disconnected...)

1) CTLSVR is running, logged in to a specific account (same as AlohaMgr)

2) I have un/reregistered CTLSVR numberous times - no joy.

3) Strange - when I try to stop the service, it hangs on "stopping". Nothing logged about this in Event Viewer.

4) There is one (1) NIC, set to LANA 0.

5) Server is in a secured room (no access unless I specifically grant it or use my card), so logins, server name, and Workgroup have not changed (I have verified this...)

6) I am able to connect to the BOH remotely, so I know (I think??)the NIC is working.

7) I have reinstalled the HASP drivers (USB HASP) directly from Aladdin's website.)

8) Site is TS, was running 6.5.36; I upgraded to 6.5.37 using Radiant Update (we have CMC, so I have access to the update files) and verified the file versions that are running, thinking maybe this might be a problem with an executable - didn't help. FWIW, EDC is 6.7.7, BOH running XP SP3. No recent updates appear to have been installed, but I rolled it back a day (no issues yesterday) - did not help.

9) I checked the .dll files that the AKB says need to be registered, and they are there.

This happened in the middle of the day - EDC stopped functioning, as well as Aloha Mgr. Computer was rebooted via the Start menu, at my direction; EDC came up, but Aloha Mgr will not. I am STUMPED!!

Below is the last entry in debout.txt:

Check the system events -
Computer Mana
Right click on my computer - Manage
Event Viewer- Applications

Look for Application errors - specifically - ctlsrv

Look at NEWDATA and locate the aloha.ini

Check to see if all the key codes have been removed after the upgrade....it seemed to happen to me

sec1=
sec2=
sec3=
sec4=
sec5=
sec6=

If sec codes got removed after the upgrade, replace them in the Aloha.ini and refresh system

Thanks for the suggestions. I have verified that the keycodes exist, are correct, and are the only ones not rem'd out in the Aloha.ini, both in DATA as well as NEWDATA. There is an entry in the event log that I missed last night, copied below:

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( CtlSvr ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry in-
formation or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve
this description; see Help and Support for details. The following
information is part of the event: Service started.

...but that's it.

Thanks again!

If you are using the register bat file in the aloha directory edit it and check the path to aloha also check the environment variables for the server.

Cheers,
Coorsman

Just to give you some more ideas of what to troubleshoot. I'd start with user rights and BOOTDRV share permissions.

OK, I checked the register .bat file and the path(s) are correct; I also checked the environment variables and they are correct as well.

The CTLSVR user (as well as the EDCSVR user - same one) has admin rights.

Thanks!

...and another oddity - if CTLSVR is not running, and I try to start Aloha Mgr, CTLSVR starts (like I would expect it to), but Mgr still comes up with the "CTLSVR has been disconnected..." message.

check this information on you back of house pc.
step 1.
make sure you attach aloha security license key in your computer,
make sure it's not losen by some reason

step 2.
if your ctrsvr in register under specific account (same as AlohaMgr,
then make sure you are login with this user name to your computer.
i recommand you have it register under local account nor a specific account.

step 3.
if both 2 is not working. first unregister aloha, use aloha unregister batch file. then reregister it again. make sure it pop out ask you to choose which account do you wanna register, choose local account.
it will pop out twice, first is for ctrsvr, second is for edcsvr.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Unfortunately, this is still happening. Following is a listing of steps performed to this point:

1) Verified security key (USB) is in place and connected securely.
2) Reinstalled HASP drivers
3) Verified that the key codes are correct and that they are the only one(s) listed in the Aloha.ini.
4) After verifying that the file paths in the batch file(s) are correct, un/reregistered IBER multiple times.
5) Verified that CTLSVR is logging on using a specific user account, the account is enabled, and that I am logging into Windows with the same account.
6) Upgraded to 6.5.37 in case there was a version issue.
7) Verified that all Aloha-related files are excluded in the AV software.
8) Verified that the Windows Firewall is disabled (system sits behind the corporate firewall.)
9) Observed the following as the only CTLSVR entry in the Event Log:

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( CtlSvr ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry in-
formation or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve
this description; see Help and Support for details. The following

...all with no success. This is a site that has been running for years, not a new installation. CTLSVR says it is running, but AM can't connect to it.

Got it! Turns out that, for some reason, AM wants RFSSVR to be registered, for some reason, even though I am not using it. When I register RFSSVR, AM will start, even if I subsequently go in and disable RFSSVR. Maybe I compounded my problems by upgrading to 6.5.37, as I have not had this at any other site (6.5.36), but not sure. Ahhh, the wonderful world of "undocumented features!"

Thanks again to all for the suggestions!
