Anybody out there that is familiar with EDGE formarly a IMA product?

I got the following problem.

EDGE, as far as I know, is supported on 3 operating systems:
Solaris, UNIX and Windows NT.

The Windows NT and Solaris type installation can directly connect with a MAP-D running CVLAN.

The UNIX type installation used to connect to a SCO-UNIX PC running the PC/CVLAN software form Lucent, that PC then is connected to a MAP-D running LANGATEWAY.
Right now Avaya does not support PC/CVLAN anymore.

I've been told that the UNIX type installation of EDGE does support connecting directly to a MAPD running CVLAN.

Does anybody know:
- if this info is right?
- if the UNIX type installation of EDGE can connect to CenterVu CT?
- anything at all on this matter?[sadeyes] Please let me know if the information that was provided is helpfull.

Hi Edwin,
The info that you have are nearly correct, on EDGE release 4.1 and 5.1 on unix you need Call Visor PC for realize comunication between EDGE and Avaya PABX.
It seems that on EDGE 6.0 IMA/AIT will support CVLAN v 8.2
and recently Avaya released a version for AIX of CVLAN client 8.2.
All depend of the version of EDGE that you have and on which unix system you use, please specify this data and if i can i try to give more info.

What I know is that EDGE is release 5.0.1 (that was the feedback) and it is running on a RS6000 system.
Right now it is connected to a DEFINITY R9.5 with a CallVisor PC.
The DEFINITY will be upgraded to R10, will this type of installation still work after the upgrade?
And what are the alternitives.

When you say: recently Avaya released a version for AIX of CVLAN client 8.2. does that mean that could be a solution, or will that only work with on EDGE release 5.1?

Please let me know if the information that was provided is helpfull.

Hi Edwin,
we are in the same situation, my actual configuration is EDGE 5.0.1 on RS6000 with AIX 4.3 and DEFINITY R8.
I'm not sure if it work , but reading the documentation of MAPD seems that you can install on it the DLG pec (definity lan gateway) and cvlan pec. If you install on your the DLG pec you can continue to use Call Visor. The only Big problem that you have is that callvisor is out of maintenance whit Definity R10.
When i say that Avaya released a version for AIX of CVLAN client (cvlan client 8.2.1) it means that could be a solution but only with EDGE 6.0 (so if you want upgrade to DEFINITY R10 you have to upgrade also EDGE to V6.0) because officially EDGE 5.0.1 do not support CVLAN v 8.2.
i'm trying to convince my company to upgrade MAPD with 1273-CVL PEC (cvlan 8.2) for make same test but in the actual situation i can't give you sure dates about your problem.

DRA,

Actually right now we are using a MAP-D with DLG, when we initially installed this at the customer site it was a R7 Definity, migration from Prologix to a Definity SI and upgrades from R7 to R8 and R9.5 went smooth.

Now the R10 upgrade is planned but we are a bit sceptic about the fact if it will still work.

Another point is that the UNIX box on which the Callvisor library is installed (and that also holds TPAS) is a SCO-Unix box the IT department of the customer wants to get rid off it. They say they can support it.(it is a old load)

I know that CentreVu CT used for TSAPI an JTAPI can support Unixware clients (tomorrow when I'm in the office I can post some more details). But I don't know if that can solve this issue.

My prob also is that the company that supports the EDGE stuff for my customer is not that great on support.
(I had to explain to them that a NT or Solaris type of install of EDGE can support CVLAN).

So can you tell me is EDGE 6.0 allready commercially available?

By the way, where are you located US or Europe?

I've also emailed some questions into Avaya to some old contacts of mine whem I still worked with Lucent. I'll keep you informed if anything good comes out of that.

So far thanks for the information

DRA,

I've recieved an EDGE 5.0 Availability Matrix that was composed by IMA on 17-8-2000.
In there I see that Release 5.0.2 on the RS6000 does support:

A
CallVisor PC v6, on Unixware 2.1.2 and (CallVisor running on a separate box)

B
CallVisor MAPD CV/LAN only with a separate box running Solaris 2.6 and ASAI Protocol v6.0.

C
CallVisor MAPD NT CV/LAN only.
NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 or later.
The it says:
Client responsibility to install MKS NutCracker (run-time) on NT 4.0 platform for CallVisor MAPD CV/LAN

Any ideas? or knowledge on the NutCracker part, too me it looks like a good alternative

hi EDWIN,
i'm sorry for the period of silence, but I've had some troulbe.
I do not kwon how the NutCracker work.
my suggest is, if your customer has IMA support, plan a mogration of EDGE to relese 6.0.2 and use CVLAN 8.2 in this way you take out from your configration a critial macine.
In any case I've made some research for your problem and if you install R10 on definity i suggest to install on MapD the dlg pec (that is not changed) and the cvlan Pec, in this way the CallVisor PC can still work in the same way and your customer don't have to chenge notting.
Regards
DRA
